Lake Lou Yaeger State Park

Get outside at Litchfield’s Lake Lou Yaeger. This 1,357-acre, 5.5-mile-long lake is the centerpiece of Litchfield’s bustling outdoors culture. In addition to boating and fishing, the surrounding 4,641 acres offer trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian use, campgrounds, a public swim beach, and a conservation area. You’ll find plenty to see, do, and explore at Lake Lou Yaeger in Litchfield, IL.

Campground Options

Equestrian

Equestrian Campground complete with water spigots and electric:
Opened in the fall of 2015, this portion of the Equestrian Campground is complete with water spigots and electric at each of the 25 sites (2 are handicap accessible sites) as well as a fire pit and posts for tie lines. 30 and 50 amp sizes are available. This campground can accommodate rigs ranging from 50 feet to 145 feet. Please specify your size upon making a reservation. Horse trail access is available from the south side of the campground. There is a shower house on the premises of the campground. A dump station is available on the Lake grounds. There are two manure pits available at the equestrian campground.

Primitive Equestrian Campground:
This portion of the Equestrian campground accommodates 30 primitive campsites and day riders. Electric is not available at this portion of the campground. A water spigot is available and access to the horse trails from the south side of the campground. There is a shower house on the premises of the campground. A dump station is available on the Lake ground, and two manure pits available at the equestrian campground.

Accessible from each Equestrian Campground is a trail head that is your entrance way to approximately 25 miles of trails. These trails traverse the woods surrounding the lake, and range from beginner to advanced. On your adventure you and your four-hoofed friend will encounter a water crossing. There are no additional fees for using the trails. Day riders are welcome and can park in the primitive campground. 

All campgrounds at Lake Lou Yaeger are open April 1 – October 31.

To make a reservation, please call the Campground Managers at 217-324-4771. If necessary, please leave a message with your name and number and someone will return your call. Reservations are not available online. Campgrounds accept cash, check or credit (on transactions larger than $15, not including the $2 service charge). A credit card is required for all reservations, and no shows will be charged a one night camping fee.
